On the day of departure from the holiday house in Valderice we still visit the Grotta Mangiapane, just a few minutes from our accommodation – beautifully done! Besides the rock culture we encounter a real peacock couple here, goats, sheep, geese and several other animals. The admission of – um, I think it was 5 € – was really totally fine. At the café we treated ourselves to a few drinks afterwards before heading back to the harbor in Trapani and from there taking the ferry to Favignana.
There we had about four hours, but the weather unfortunately didn't cooperate at all. Without sun the island simply doesn't look like it does on the postcards or in KaDa's pictures from their last vacation. A pity really, because you could still clearly see how beautiful it must be here in better weather.
Back on the mainland we drove to Castelvetrano, where each couple got their own bungalow for the night at the Agrisicilia Camping Resort. Together we drove down to the water once more. KaDa strolled off and Seb and I ended the day with a portion of spaghetti Bolognese and a pizza. For dessert there was ice cream and afterwards we walked around the town for a while before heading back to the accommodation.
KaDa made their way back on foot. They apparently had quite an adventure along the way though, because as we later learned, they got into it with some street dogs. Fortunately nothing happened.
Since we had booked breakfast included, we met the next morning directly in the breakfast room. It was okay, but nothing worth writing much about. After we had eaten and loaded everything back into the car, it was time for the cultural program.
We visited the Archaeological Site of Selinunte. Beautiful... yes, I'm repeating myself! But I simply feel at ease here. Something about this architecture does something to me. It was like that in Rome back then and here it's just the same.
Also our new favorite pastime reaches its absolute peak here. In front of the ancient backdrops we bust out our best, unintentionally funny Instagram poses again. We snap countless pictures and enjoy the glorious weather to the fullest. At the café on the grounds we treat ourselves to ice cream, drinks and a spot in the shade. Our break is accompanied by a lizard that enjoys my leftover lemonade that I pour out for it. Unfortunately also by a hedgehog that apparently passed away shortly after. It came directly to people but was no longer able to take on water or food. Not pleasant to watch at all.
After we were done here, our next stop took us to the Archaeological Site of Agrigento. Well... you can do it once. But you don't have to. If you've seen the first site, the second isn't quite as impressive anymore. Above all it was significantly more crowded here, while at Selinunte we felt almost alone. Another downside: we were told you absolutely had to take a taxi because otherwise you couldn't manage the grounds. In the end it only cost 3 € per person, but it definitely wasn't necessary.
Also annoying was that you couldn't easily find the exit. By then we were all a bit running out of steam. That's why we made one more strategic stop at the shopping center to buy groceries before heading to our accommodation in Agrigento.
The landlady was... let's say... veeeery talkative, but at the same time damn proud of her beautiful place. The holiday apartment itself we quite liked. The rooms were nicely spacious, the kitchen well-equipped and so we cooked something for ourselves in the evening and let the day wind down peacefully.
