Another month has passed, and I've now been traveling for two whole months. My goodness, how time flies! Since Australia is quite a bit more expensive than planned and I already had a wonderful vacation in New Zealand in October, I decided to take things a little easier in November. Nevertheless, I've already seen and experienced a lot here in Sydney. Today, I'd like to share some of these experiences with you.
Since hostel beds in Sydney are extremely expensive and hard to find between Christmas and New Year's Eve, I decided to look for a room in a shared apartment. Plus, I didn't want to have to change rooms every few days for three months, which would have been inevitable with hostel stays.
Finally, as promised long ago, here's a short post about my job search in Sydney. What can I say? I've been very fortunate in my life so far. As my brother would put it: I've often had more luck than sense. I'd like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone who has helped and supported me along the way.
As promised last time, I'd like to tell you about my time in Newcastle and my job search there.
When I think of this hostel, only words like revolting, filthy, grimy, neglected, and simply 'ugh' come to mind.
After returning the motorhome, I had three days to explore Christchurch on foot. I decided to first head toward the city center to see what remained after 4 major earthquakes and over 10,800 smaller ones in the past two years.
When I woke up in the morning, there was barely any sign of the 130km/h storm we'd had overnight. Since I'd secured a spot with an electrical hookup, my heater had run all night, and I hadn't felt any of the biting cold that must have descended. It was now sunny and pleasant to be outside. Only the surrounding mountains showed evidence of the storm, with fresh snow having lowered the snowline by several meters.
Today was a special day, though for a somewhat bittersweet reason. Unfortunately, it was our last day traveling through New Zealand together. We were lucky once more with dreamy weather and a truly beautiful route along two enormous lakes.
Good grief, what another night! I was thoroughly shaken again as the wind unfortunately hadn't died down. This time, at least, the wind wasn't coming directly across the beach, so we weren't caught in the middle of a sandstorm. After taking a few photos, we decided to move on quickly since we had something really interesting planned for today.
